Water Damage
Property owners can experience water damage as a result of a plumbing issue. Water damage is not limited to a toilet, refrigerator, washing machine, or an HVAC system not draining properly.
Heavy rains can cause water damage without causing any flood damage. If the roof of your property is damaged during a storm and rainwater leaks into the property, it is usually deemed water damage.
Fire Damage
Fire damage generally entails any physical damage to a property as a result of burning.
There are six types of Fire damage:
-
Class A: Flammable Solids
-
Class B: Flammable Liquids
-
Class C: Flammable Gasses
-
Class D: Combustible Metals
-
Class E: Class A and B plus electrical
-
Class F: Hotter and Destructive oils/fats.
Smoke Damage
Smoke damage, sometimes known as Secondary Fire damage, typically entails damage to a property due to smoke from a fire but not the fire itself.
Generally speaking this will cover any restoration needed rather than rebuilding due to fires. This includes, but is not limited to, removing smells and soot from the property.
Hurricane Damage
Water Damage: Water damage is any kind of damage to the property as a direct result of wind driven rain. This can happen during a natural disaster or a hurricane that produces heavy rainfall in a short period of time, leading to a roof leaking.
Wind Damage: Wind damage is any damage to the property as a direct result of high winds. These damaging winds or straight line winds exceed 40 mph.
Hail Damage
Hail damage is any damage caused directly from hailstones and hailstorms, typically 0.75 in. in size.
Hail Damage is covered as either “functional” damage or “cosmetic” damage. Both are covered, but it is important to determine if the damage has caused loss to functionality or simply is cosmetic issues.
Business Interruption
Business Interruption typically applies to when a property loses income during a set period of time due to damage to the property.
This means that calculating expenses is important, because this amount will typically include expenses made but not directly because of the loss. Typically harder to calculate, but not one that is impossible.
